Local Nonprofit, DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh, Celebrates City with Robust
In-Person Tour Series

PITTSBURGH, March 25, 2022 - DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh is excited to invite people into the city's diverse neighborhoods for purposes of celebrating architecture, art and history as warmer weather welcomes a summer full of in-person tours for Pittsburghers, and Pittsburghers at heart.

Beginning on April 23, DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh will launch a robust in-person tour schedule through the end of October.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer so many in-person tours across our many neighborhoods, showcasing public art, notable Pittsburghers, our history and our architecture. We invite everyone to come out and enjoy our city and the people who make it so great,” said Founder and Executive Director, Bonnie Baxter.

The first Insider Tour, Chiseled Art: A Studio Tour with Thad Mosley, takes place on Saturday, April 23. Others include City of Pittsburgh Bomb Squad, River Safety and Mounted Patrol; the Downtown Shul, Gamma Pickelball, private gardens and more local artists. Insider Tours are presented at one location, typically in a private or obscure space, as an immersive experience.

Guests get special access to these spaces, and the people who make these spaces so unique to Pittsburgh.

Insider Tourstypically last 45-60 minutes. Ticket prices vary from $15-$20. For more information: https://doorsopenpgh.org/insider-tours-2/

The first Guided Walking Tour of the season, Walking Historic Lawrenceville: The New and Old, takes place on Sunday, April 24. Additionally, DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh will be offering tours to over a dozen neighborhoods.

“DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh Guided Walking Tours are led by experienced and passionate tour guides. They take guests off-the-beaten path, steeping them in the history, cultural contributions, and little-known facts about celebrated Pittsburghers, craftsmen, and tycoons, while pointing out beautiful architectural details along the way,” according to Ms. Baxter.

Guided Walking Tours are typically 90 to 120 minutes. Tickets prices vary from $15-$30. For more information: https://doorsopenpgh.org/guided-walking-tours-2/

All tours require pre-registration, which closes at 5 pm the day prior to the tour. Please visit https://doorsopenpgh.org/ for more information.
